Book Review: Mojo

Mojo: How to Get It, How to Keep It, How to Get It Back If You Lose ItMojo: How to Get It, How to Keep It, How to Get It Back If You Lose It by Marshall Goldsmith

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Two keys to a good read are useful subject matter and an expert author.  In What Got You Here Won't Get You There Marshall Goldsmith showed us that his many years as an executive coach have given him unusual insight into what makes some business professionals more successful than others.  With this more recent book, the question of how to get, keep or retrieve one's personal MOJO at work definitely falls into the important-to-know category.  Put a check in both those boxes.

After defining what he means by "mojo" - the positive spirit toward what we are doing now that starts from the inside and radiates to the outside - Goldsmith breaks it down into its constituent parts and provides a series of 14 tools for getting in and staying in our own groove.  Much of this resonated with me.  I enjoyed the assessment tools and the exercises.  And it always helps to read the stories of others who have struggled to find their niche or find enjoyment on the job.

Goldsmith has clearly helped a lot of people in their personal journeys and I for one am grateful he has taken the time to braindrop what he knows into these two books. Excellent reading for anyone who feels a bit stuck on their current work life.
